Hello Emergency Management Practitioners,

With all of the devastation that is occurring this year there is even greater focus on our profession. IAEM Canada has spent the last year researching competencies of the emergency manager from literature dating back to the early 2000’s. Documentation from the USA, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada have contributed to the identification of fundamentals by our Professional Development Committee.

One of the more practical and poignant listing comes from FEMA and IAEM Global as they have provided grants to academia and practitioners to continue aligning emergency management certification in IAEM. Interesting to note is the newly released “Next Generation Core Competencies for Emergency Management Professionals” for the Emergency Manager of the future.

Most, if not all of this research is available through the IAEM Resource portal. The portal also includes relevant and current information such as this through IAEM newsletters, practitioner articles, reference materials, Discussion Boards and the new IAEM Canada Communique – the Resources section is a powerful tool for today’s emergency management professional.

I would personally like to invite you to explore, discover, discuss and gain the information you need to become a more knowledgeable emergency manager – including much of the competency development work being done by IAEM Canada.
